Trudet helps you understand a news story from multiple angles, and increasingly, what it actually means for you. This page explains what information the Trudet app collects, why, and the choices you have.
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google to create your Trudet profile. You can browse most of the app without signing in, but saving stories and personalization require an account.
Bookmarked stories, and the topics you pick during onboarding (a minimum of three, used to shape your For You feed), are stored against your account so they work across sessions and devices.
We keep track of which stories you open and how long you spend reading them, which stories you save or skip, and whether you tend to read deeper "impact" analysis or lighter coverage, to build a personal interest profile tied to your account (your region if provided, topic interests, and per-topic engagement weights). This profile is used to rank your Home feed and to decide which "why this matters to you" explanation, if any, to show for a story. It is not shared outside Trudet and is never used to show you personalized advertising.
Your daily app-open streak (shown on your Profile) is recorded against your account — we store the date for each day you open the app, so your streak stays accurate across devices and app reinstalls.
If you enable notifications, your device registers an anonymous push token with our backend so we can send you alerts about trending stories. This token is not linked to your account or identity.
We use PostHog to record product analytics events (such as which stories, timelines, or perspectives are viewed, and features like Go Nuts or Listen to This being used) to understand how the app is used and to improve it. These events are not linked to your name or email.
Trudet asks for one-time access to your device's approximate foreground location (never background/always-on location). As of this version, granting this permission does not change anything in the app yet — it exists ahead of an upcoming local/nearby news feature and your location is not currently read, stored, or sent anywhere. You can decline this prompt, or change your answer later from your device's system Settings, with no effect on the rest of the app.
We use the information above to operate the app (sign-in, saved stories, personalization, your reading streak), to send you notifications you've opted into, to understand product usage so we can improve Trudet, and to maintain the security and reliability of the service. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Trudet relies on a small number of third-party services to operate: Google (sign-in), Supabase (backend database, authentication, and file storage), Expo (push notification delivery and app updates), and PostHog (product analytics). Each of these providers processes data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.
Stories in the app link out to the original publishers' websites. Once you tap through to read a full article, that publisher's own privacy policy applies to your visit there, not this one.
Story summaries, "why it matters" explanations, and consequence analysis (including the 1–5 star likelihood rating shown on some stories, indicating how likely a predicted consequence is to actually happen) are generated by automated language-model analysis of publicly available reporting. This analysis describes the story itself, the same for every reader — it is not generated about you personally, even when a "why this matters to you" line is shown based on your interest profile (Section 01). Some stories also display a Left/Neutral/Right perspective breakdown generated the same way. This analysis is provided to help you understand a story and may not be complete or perfectly accurate.
You can turn push notifications on or off at any time from Profile > Preferences, and change your For You topics at any time from Profile > For You Topics. You can sign out at any time, which stops new activity from being associated with your account. To request access to or correction of your account data, or to delete it, see Section 07.
You can permanently delete your Trudet account at any time, directly in the app: go to Profile and tap Delete my account. After you confirm, this immediately and permanently deletes your account and everything tied to it — your saved stories, reading streak, personalization profile, and onboarding topics. This action cannot be undone and does not require contacting us.
If you're unable to use the in-app option, you can instead request deletion by emailing us at the address below, and we'll process it by hand.
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account (Section 07) removes this data immediately; anonymous data that was never tied to your account (such as push tokens or analytics events) is retained only as long as it's useful for operating and improving the app.
Trudet is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
